Food insecurity continues to increase as the Covid-19 Pandemic continues to alter so many aspects of life these days. We are fortunate that the First Baptist Church of Savage, 8901 Washington Street, operates The Bread of Life Food Pantry to serve our little town and persons in need from within a 7 mile radius. The organization indicates that the donation of non-perishable food items and hygiene products has dropped off considerably. Cash donations would enable the food pantry volunteers to go the extra mile to shop for the most needed items at this time.
Perhaps you were thinking of donating to The Pantry but didn't quite know how. Your SCA is setting up a simple way for you to donate online (with the same ease as placing your plant sale orders) through our website. Our goal is to be able to present the Food Pantry with a check for $2000 in 15 days to keep the pantry stocked. Our Food Drive Challenge will run from 31 July to 15 August.
To encourage you to donate what you can, your Savage Community Association (SCA) has teamed up with Carroll Baldwin Memorial Institute (CBMI) and together WILL MATCH DONATIONS up to a total of $1000. That means for example, if you donate $10 the food pantry will receive $20 ($10 from you, $10 from the SCA/CBMI challenge fund.) Donate $25 and the food pantry will receive $50 to support our local families in need ($25 from you matched with $25 from the SCA/CBMI challenge fund).
We will update this site as donations come in. The pledged bar is how much money has been promised and the confirmed bar is the amount actually collected. Donations will be collected through Square, which charges a fee for transactions. The SCA Chair will cover the transaction fees to guarantee that ever dollar donated gets to where you intended, there will be no other processing fees incurred. Every dollar donated will be delivered to the Bread of Life Food Pantry.
Volunteers are also needed to help with food shopping and sorting as well as the distribution of food on Thursdays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Help carrying boxes up and down steps for people is particularly needed. Call Liz Slater at 301-395-2652 to volunteer.
